Busy at the weekend

Posted: August 28, 2007 in Uncategorized

I have been very busy at the weekend making cards.. I bought a TSV from QVC a couple of months back that was by MSE (My Sentiments Exactly). It came in a lovely pink box which now has some of my 6×6 pads in it. The cards themselves are easy to put together and come with everything you need, but it took me forever to print off the inserts and find nice sentiments to go on the insides. Anyway mission accomplished. I only hope no-one asks me for more of the same as unless I buy another box set I can’t duplicate any of the cards – the only drawback with these card kits I have found – and whilst I would love to buy the kit time after time after time (I love the boxes!!) it costs more to ship it here than the product does.. Ho hum.

On the other hand, I pinched yet another card layout from Liz Armstrong over at Pink Petticoat (I just can’t get enough of her designs at the moment) to make a couple of thank you cards.

I also made a wedding card which was using a page layout. I am so glad I found the Card positioning sites as they make inspiration a little easier. As long as you have co-ordinating paper you have a head start. i will be using the layouts a lot more now that I have discovered them. I am so much more inspired to carry on with my card making after checking everyone’s blogs, and although I can’t lay my hands on the cards and paper as easily as everyone else out there, it hasn’t put me off trying, just using different materials is a challenge. I would love to take part in the various challenges around, but can’t get any of the materials necessary, so I will have to just keep checking in on you all to see what you come up with, until I have got a little more stuff together..

I love checking in on the blogs to see all the ideas – I feel like I’m checking in with friends – and everyone has been so supportive – thanks.

I was re-directed to a blog yesterday by another craft blogger and clicked on it as it said, “If you want a real laugh at something that has nothing to do with craft then click on the link“. So I did. I then sat there for about two hours (approx) CRYING with laughter. I have posted the link on the left under favourite blogs. This lady should be writing her own book, she is so funny. Even if you only have a couple of kids you are still able to relate to this mum of six and you have to think “God Bless her” for her obvious patience and sense of humour. After all it’s a sense of humour that get’s us all through those trying moment as parents right? I think I speak for many when I say that you should check out this blog, just to give yourself a weekly dose of laughter if nothing else.

Enjoy – I really did!

Two cards today

I’ve been quite busy today. Made a card for someone which I struggled to find a theme for – it was a masculine card – I hate those – they always seem so hard to me. Finally played around with a design and went for a simple design with a wacky sentiment. When the card was finished I ended up quite liking it. Unfortunately the girl I had made it for, didn’t and so I had to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch with something completely different.

So I ended up altering a couple of the elements on the LAST card I made and made that one again. So thanks again to Liz Armstrong from Pink Petticoat, who once again has saved my bacon on a masculine design. Having changed the numbers to a heart I thought that this would then make quite a nice wedding or anniversary card if I used mirri card and pastel colours, so I might give that a go at some stage. Don’t worry everyone, I won’t post every single different version of a card that I make, but I am posting these as otherwise I can’t see how my photography is coming along!

Latest Card

On Monday was my DH’s birthday, and I made him a card using the Pink Petticoat papers. It was inspired by a card created by Liz Armstrong of Pink Petticoat. I think she is a very inspirational designer and I love all her work. Check out the link at the side of my blog for more inspiration from her and her team.

He wasn’t overly impressed by the size of the numbers, as he likes to try to forget how old he is, but I like it for it’s simplicity and think that the black and white theme with just a touch of colour makes for a great masculine card. I will post more cards that I have done in the past as soon as I have snapped some.

I am really excited about my new blog – my husband has even asked me to create a blog for him for his bar, but this blogging stuff isn’t easy for us first timers so you’ll have to be patient whilst I figure out all the glitchy stuff so that it will be as easy as 1-2-3 for him to post and upload photos!

In the meantime keep checking back, you never know it might get my creative juices flowing and make me get my card stash out. Even better, I might remember to take photos of the cards that I make for people before I give them out!

I want to buy a die cutting machine, but there are so many that I don’t know which one to go for. Ideally I want one that will emboss as well. If anyone has any suggestions I would be more than happy to hear from you!

Thanks for stopping by!

Finally Got it Sussed

A couple of pictures to get this blog off the ground. Here is a card I made (early attempt) using one of the Chris Warner Adorable Angels CD’s. The tag in the pocket is double sided with “Wedding Congratulations” and the wedding angel on one side and all the dtails of the wedding on the other side. It has a matching insert. Image may be a bit blurry as I am not used to photographing my work and posting on a web page, but I will persevere and hopefully get better at it.
Thanks for looking!

Hopefully I will now have added some of by favourite bloggers – those that inspired me to blog in the first place! and a visitor counter (just ‘cos everyone else had one) and I wanted to see how easy it was to install (lol). I’m not up-to-date with all of the shortcut lingo, so I will have to learn as I go along..

Fun so far!
